A YOUNG singer has won the chance to support one of the UK's fastest-rising musicians.

Chloe Latimer, from Clydebank, won the chance to support English star Gabrielle Aplin at the Glasgow ABC on November 2.

Hundreds of aspiring musicians applied to the online contest to find a support act for her tour.

Although Chloe finished in third place, Gabrielle gave her the chance to open the show in her home town.

The 16-year-old was overjoyed when she found out about winning the contest.

She said: "When I found out I went crazy. My friends were the reason I found out, because they texted me telling me that I had won.

"I was actually cleaning the toilets at the time, but I just ended up screaming when I found out.

"One of the guys rushed in to see what had happened, then he just started laughing."

Gabrielle became well-known for her cover of the Frankie Goes To Hollywood hit, The Power Of Love.

Her album, English Rain, found similar success and peaked at No2 in the UK chart.

The acoustic artist has acted as an inspiration for Chloe, which made winning the competition even more special.

She said: "Gabrielle is the first person I really looked up to. She made me want to go out and play gigs, she even made me want to pick up and play the guitar.

"I'm worried I won't be able to stop myself asking things like 'where were you when you wrote this?' or 'what were you thinking at that time?'

"I met her when I was 13, but this will be totally different."

Chloe left Clydebank High school earlier this year to pursue her career and start recording her debut single.

She has played several of Glasgow's venues, including King Tut's Wah Wah Hut and made appearances at several festivals last summer.

Tickets are still available for the concert at the start of November.
