IT'S the ultimate Christmas gift for the meat lover who has everything - an entire cow, to be consumed over 10 sittings at a private members club.

The meal deal with a difference has a price tag of £225 and is on offer at the 29 club in Glasgow's Royal Exchange Square.

Diners will be served 10 different cuts of meat over 10 dinner sittings at The Grill Room at the Square.

The menu is designed for meat lovers who like to try unusual but distinctive treats from little heard of spider steaks to tender beef cheeks.

For award-winning head chef David Friel it is a chance for him to cook selected cuts on his specially designed char-grill.

He said: "This is a restaurant for meat lovers and we wanted to be a bit more creative this Christmas. Buying a 'cow' is the perfect gift for someone who wants to be more adventurous with their palette.

"Even seasoned steak lovers may not have heard of some of these cuts.

"They're not the type of thing you'll find in supermarket aisles. Plus this is a great excuse to have ten nights out over the course of a year."

The rare cuts include spider steak - so named because it has five strips of cartilage weaved through it - and the teres major, taken from the animal's shoulder.

David added: "The main idea was to push the boundaries of the usual restaurant menu.

"At this time of year, people love nothing more than meaty meals but tend to play it safe and not stray from the usual cuts.

"I understand that people may be quite shocked when they read that we're offering a whole cow at first, but really it's a way of letting people dine out of their comfort zone."

Although 29 is a private club, its restaurant is open to the public. It's thought the £225 steak deal will appeal predominantly to the club's wealthier clientele.
