THE number of fires involving grass and rubbish has fallen dramatically in South Ayrshire.
Fire crews were called to 102 deliberate secondary fires in the area between April and August, down from 175 during the same period last year.
Area Manager Jim Scott - the local senior officer for East, North and South Ayrshire - welcomed the figures.
He said: "The fact deliberate secondary fires are down more than 40% from last year is great news.
"It shows why firefighters work to raise awareness of this issue."
