A PRESTIGIOUS award has been presented to a leading figure in New York for her work for the global school feeding charity, Mary's Meals.
Ana Laffont, Chair of the Board of Mary's Meals USA, received the Christmas Angel award from His Eminence, Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York.
More than 1000 people helped to raise $900,000 at the annual holiday award event that recognises individuals who demonstrate a deep commitment to service.
Mrs Laffont - a lawyer - received the Christmas Angel award for her contribution to Mary's Meals, which provides life-changing meals to impoverished children living in some of the world's poorest countries.
The charity provides a daily meal in a place of learning in order to attract chronically poor children into the classroom, where they receive an education that can, in the future, be their ladder out of poverty.
