TWO thugs beat a man and repeatedly kicked him during a botched robbery.

The 61-year-old man was forced onto the ground after his attackers set upon him in a Paisley street.

He was walking along Fulbar Road, at around 9.30pm on Sunday, when he was approached by the pair.

As they battered him, the two men demanded the victim hand over his wallet and mobile phone.

However, he managed to escape by running in the direction of Ferguslie Main Road.

Police said the 61-year-old was "lucky" not be seriously injured, but has been left shaken by his ordeal.

The first suspect is described as a white male, 5ft 10in tall, of stocky build, with a local accent.

He was wearing dark clothing.

The second suspect is described as a white male, 5ft 8in tall, with a drawn in face. He was wearing top with grey hood.

Detective Constable Neil Andrew, who is leading the investigation, said: "Police are conducting door to door and CCTV enquiries in an effort to trace the men responsible.

"He is lucky not to have been more seriously injured but is clearly shocked by what has happened.

"Incidents of this nature are rare.

"However it is important we uncover who is responsible for this crime.

"I'm conscious there may have been members of the public in and around the area at the time who may have seen the suspects or the victim and can offer information which assists our investigation. "Even if you don't think the information you have is important, it could be critical as part our broader investigation."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Paisley Police Office on 101.
