VIEWS on the future of a neglected green space are being sought online.

As the Evening Times reported last month, two groups pitched their bids to the community.

But a third organisation is now involved.

Latecomers, the Victoria Park Residents' Association, wants to see the red blaes pitches grassed over.

Meanwhile, Broomhill Sports Club (BSC) want to restore the pitches to their former glory - and build a football pitch, community pitch and dressing room facilities.

And Friends of Victoria Park (FoVP) hope to build an orchard, community garden, bike and seating area.

City residents have been invited to share their views.

Since the meeting was held, the groups say they have received positive feedback.

Now the council wants to hear opinions before the consultation closing date on February 27.

Steve Prince, chairman of BSC, which has more than 750 members, said: "The feedback has been absolutely incredible.

"When we went along to the meeting I think people were surprised - I think they had a misconception that our members weren't from the area and they didn't really understand what we were about.

"Now we feel really invigorated."

The BSC's head coach is Kenny Moyes, brother of football manager and ex-Celtic player David Moyes, who played his first game on the blaes pitches.

Mr Prince said: "We really want the park to have a sports facility like this in it again."

Cathie Russell, a member of FoVP, said: "We want to keep this area as parkland.

"We always said we had concerns about transferring the land to an organisation that needs a long lease.

"We view it as common good land."

Councillor Alistair Watson, Executive Member for Land and Environmental Services, said: "This is not about selling off Victoria Park or any part of it.

"It's about giving people and local groups with an interest in the area the means to let us know what they think is the best way forward for area.

"It's absolutely vital that we get the most representative views as possible which is why those with an interest in the area should participate."

The consultation will be available at www.glasgow.gov.uk/consultations until February 27.
