ONE man has died and another remains in a serious condition after a head-on rush hour crash.
The Scotland Street accident happened around 6.20pm yesterday involving a BMW and a Mercedes recovery vehicle.
Two men, aged 62 and 48, were working to recover a broken down vehicle on the westbound carriageway of the busy thoroughfare when they were hit by the BMW.
At least three ambulances and one special operations team rushed to the scene to treat the casualties, and the two men were taken to hospital.
The 62-year-old man tragically died after arriving at the Southern General, and the 48-year-old is said to be in a "serious but stable" condition.
Officers and forensics teams closed the street between Shields Road and Carnoustie Street while investigation and recovery work took place, before reopening it around midnight.
They are now working to establish the exact circumstances of the crash, and officers are appealing to anyone who may have witnesses the accident to contact 101.
