POLICE have released images of a man they are trying to trace following a rape in Uddingtson.

 

A 20-year-old woman was attacked on Tuesday March 24 as she walked home from Uddingston train station at around 10.15pm.

She was approached from behind by a man who forced her into a wooded area near Castle Gate, then attacked her.

After the man ran off the woman contacted the police.

The incident was described by officers as an "horrendous ordeal" for the woman.

Detective Inspector Tom Carty,of the Specialist Crime Division, said it was critical the man was traced, but reminded members of the public that incidents of this type were very rare in the area.

Now officers have released CCTV footage of a man they believe could assist them with their inquiries following the rape.

He is described as between 30 and 50 years old, around 5ft 9in, wearing dark clothing including a hood. He is also thought to have had red hair and red facial hair.

Detective Inspector Carty is appealing for any witnesses to the incident near the South Lanarkshire train station to get in touch.

He is also asking anyone who can identify the man in the CCTV images to come forward to police, by contacting the non-emergency number 1010.
