THE SOUNDS and colours of Edinburgh’s Military Tattoo filled the streets of Glasgow as performers from the event paraded through George Square.

Over 600 drummers, dancers and pipers from the showpiece military event formed a procession through the city to promote the Tattoo, which runs in Edinburgh until August 29.

Glasgow Provost Sadie Docherty took a salute from the performers at the City Chambers as they wound their way round the Square.

The world-famous event has an East Meets West theme this year and organizers hope the showcase will whet the appetite of the Glasgow public.

Tattoo Chief Executive and Producer Brigadier David Allfrey, said: “We are pleased to offer both locals and visitors an opportunity to enjoy some of this month’s breath-taking production with its spectacular multi-talented cast.”

The procession saw the Lotus Dragon Dancers from China excite the crowds with their colourful displays and expressive moves.

The Top Secret Drum Corp from Switzerland and the Citadel Regimental Band and Pipes from South Carolina were also on hand to provide top quality musical entertainment.

They were joined by the Bollywood Dance Troupe from New Dehli who put a Scottish twist on their usual act with their tartan outfits.

Despite some rain, performers from the Shetland Fiddlers, the Tattoo’s Highland Dancers, The Royal Air Force Band all entertained the gathered crowds.

Performers from 48 countries will take part in the Tattoo, which has an estimated annual global television audience of over 100 million.

The first Tattoo took place in 1950, with just 6,000 spectators. This year 220,000 visitors are set to watch the international spectacular throughout August.
