A FESTIVE themed charity run through Glasgow will raise money for disabled children.

The first ever Reindeer Run - backed by Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth athlete Diane Ramsay - will be held on December 13 in Bellahouston Park.

On the day, a 'herd' of runners pound the 5k track to raise money for Sense Scotland.

The charity supports and promotes the interests of children, young people and adults who have communication support needs arising from a range of disabilities including deafblindness, sensory impairment and learning or physical disability.

GB and Scottish athlete Diane said: "I think the Reindeer Run is a great idea.

"There aren't many fun runs around that time of year where all the family can have a great day completing the course together and 5k is the perfect distance for all age groups and abilities.

"Although I have to say maybe a bit far for a 400m runner like me."

The run is also being supported by Glasgow-based Barclay's staff.

As part of their entry all participants will be given their own set of antlers to wear on the day which they are free to customise and have some fun with.

As well as the Reindeer Run the charity will be having a short Toddler Dash for all those young budding athletes.

Entry to the Dash is on the day and donations are welcome as there is no entry fee.

As well as raising vital funds, the run also aims to raise vital funds and awareness for the charity which is celebrating its 30th birthday this year.

Erin Leggate from Sense Scotland said: “For thirty years Sense Scotland has supported and promoted the interests of children, young people and adults who have communication support needs arising from a range of disabilities.

"The Reindeer Run participants are going to be helping us towards being here for another thirty plus years.”

To enter visiting Sense Scotland’s website www.sensescotland.org.uk or calling 0300 330 9292

Entry fees are £10 for adults and £5 for children.

All 5k runners are asked to aim for a sponsorship target of £50.
