LORD Provost Sadie Docherty joined Santa on a sleigh as the countdown to Christmas began.
Visitors to George Square are being urged to get their skates on as Glasgow on Ice takes to the stage once more.
The open-air rink, one of the largest in Europe, is now open for five weeks of holiday fun.
The newly-built rink is part of Glasgow Loves Christmas, and will also be joined by various attractions and entertainment in the lead up to the festive period.
The ice rink will open at midday and will be open every day except Christmas Day, until 10pm on December 31.
Other entertainment includes the Big Wheel, fairground rides and food and drink stands. George Square will also house the city’s traditional Nativity Scene and Glasgow’s Christmas tree.
The Winter Lodge will give views over the ice rink while you sit back, relax with a warming drink in hand and watch the world skate by in a flurry of winter wonder.
Tickets for the rink start from £4.50 for Young Scot/Kidz Card holders, and there are reduced rates for parties and concessions, as well as sessions for children under eight.
