ANIMAL lovers in North Lanarkshire are being asked to help bring an injured abandoned dog to safety.
The Scottish SPCA and dog wardens have been trying to catch a hurt Border Collie living rough in Airdrie for around three weeks.
But the dog - which is thought to have been hit by car - is said to be "terrified" and wont let them get close enough.
The animal has been seen around Airdrie Leisure Centre and the Forgewood Path area.
The SSPCA is asking animal lovers to try to "win the dog's trust" and also contact them with sightings.
Sarah Parker, SSPCA Animal Rescue Officer, said: "The dog is living rough and is terrified of people, meaning no-one has been able to get close enough to catch it so far.
"We are very concerned as the dog is reported to walk near main roads and the railway line.
"It has also been seen limping and we think it may have been hit by a car.
"No owners are known at this stage and the dog hasn't been reported as missing so it's possible this is a pet which has been abandoned.
"We are unsure if the dog is male or female but it is an adult Border collie with some black patches on its body and a black patch on one eye and one ear."
She added: "As the dog is so frightened, people should be wary if they do get close in case this results in aggressive behaviour.
"Anyone who is able to assist is urged to contact us.
"Sightings of the dog should also be reported to us on 03000 999 999 and the dog warden at North Lanarkshire Council on 01698 403110."
