Today is Holocaust Memorial Day as it is the day Auschwitz, the largest of the Nazi concentration camps, was liberated in 1945.
In the five years that the camp was open, an estimated 1.1 million people were killed.
Politicians have paid their respects on twitter using the hashtag #DontStandBy, ensuring that lessons continue to be learned from the genocide of the Nazi holocaust and subsequent deaths at the hands of racism and intolerance.
The Scottish Government has announced more than £280,000 renewed funding to Holocaust Educational Trust and renewed funding for the Trust’s 'Lessons from Auschwitz Project' was confirmed by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.
Ms Sturgeon took to twitter to remember the victims of the holocaust, writing "we resolve to stand against prejudice & intolerance".
