POLICE hunting for a missing 83-year-old who disappeared nearly two weeks ago have found a body.
Officers made the discovery in a wooded area of Bishopbriggs, around 10am today.
Although formal identification is yet to take place, officers say they believe they have found Matthew Bowie who disappeared from his home in Gleneagles Gardens on Saturday January 23.
A police spokesman said: "The body of a man was recovered in a wooded area in Bishopbriggs at around 10.00am.
"The man is still to be formally identified, however it is believed to be Matthew Bowie.
"The death is not being treated as suspicious, however a post mortem will be carried out in due course to establish the exact cause of death.
"Matthew's family are aware and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
Earlier this week, Mr Bowie's family made an emotional plea for him to come home at a press conference in Kirkintilloch.
Police had deployed specialist search teams in a bid to trace him,and had been using underwater crews to search the canal in Bishopbriggs.
