A serious assault victim made his own way to hospital after being attacked in a shop.
The incident happened in Lalley's shop on Auchmead Road, Greenock at around 12.30pm yesterday.
The Greenock Telegraph reports that police said the 29-year-old victim was approached by two men inside the shop who punched him on his head and face.
Detective Inspector David Wagstaff, of Greenock CID, said: "There was a minor disagreement and words were exchanged.
"As a result, the two males seriously assaulted the victim by punching him to the head and face leaving him with a cut to his left eye and bruises to his body.
"He made his own way to Inverclyde Royal Hospital where he needed a number of stitches before he was released home."
Police, who said that other members of the public were in and around the shop at the time of the incident, are understood to be following a positive line of inquiry.
Information about the matter should be passed to officers through the non-emergency 101 number.
