A man is in a critical condition after falling from a slip road off the M8 into Glasgow city centre.

The incident happened in the early hours of the morning near Bothwell Street.

Police said they received a report about a man who had fallen from the “overhead bypass” of the M8 at junction 19 at 3.30am.

He was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where doctors say he is in a “critical condition”.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “Around 3.30am on Sunday March 27, police received a report of a man having fallen from the overhead bypass of the M8 in Glasgow City Centre.

“Emergency services attended and the man was taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary where medical staff describe his condition as critical.

“Enquiries are at an early stage to establish the circumstances and the off ramp from the M8 onto Bothwell Street is still currently partially closed.”

The area was completely sealed off for several hours this morning and traffic was diverted.

A traffic information bulletin issued by Glasgow City Council at 6.20am said: “Due to an ongoing police incident, the M8 Junction 19 Bothwell St off slip has been closed to all traffic.”
