Balrossie School - more commonly known as Balrossie Orphanage - dates back to 1899, and was originally used as a home for sailor's orphans.

The orphanage was commisioned by the Sailors Orphans Society of Scotland and was the first orphanage to be built by the group.

The building was purchased by Glasgow Corporation, where it served as a residential school from the 1960s until it's closure in the 1990s. 

The building had been left to lie abandoned and derelict, but that didn't stop photographer Michelle O'Connell snapping the atmospheric images you see in the gallery above.
