TWO men were shot at in broad daylight in a brazen targeted attack in Hamilton.

The shooting happened in Hamilton on Monday, June 27 prompting police to launch a major investigation.

Officers from Police Scotland’s Major Inquiry Team are conducting enquiries after the two men were shot on a footpath between Millgate Road and Westwood Crescent in the Lanarkshire town at around 2.30pm.

A local resident, who did not want to be named, said: “It has been the talk of the town. I have heard all sorts including one of the guys got shot in the eye.

“The other guy apparently was shot on his side.”

Police confirmed that one of the victims, who is 26, sustained injuries to his head, face and chest.

He was taken to Hairmyres Hospital where he is in a serious but stable condition. The other victim, a 27-year-old man, received injuries to his face and head.

He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where medical staff describe his condition as serious but stable.

Specialist search officers have been examining the area where the shooting happened, but Police Scotland admit there is no information on the attackers.

Cops are also carrying out door-to-door enquiries, to try and establish the circumstances of what has happened.

Detective Inspector Grant Durie, from the Major Investigation Team, said: “I would like to make it clear from the outset that we believe this was a targeted attack and that those injured were the intended victims.

“We are in the process of piecing together the circumstances of what has happened and are still reviewing CCTV footage and carrying out door-to-door enquiries to gather additional information.

“If you were in the area around the time of incident or you have any information or knowledge about the suspects or the incident then please do contact police.

Detective Inspector Durie added: “Understandably, this incident will be of concern for local people and I would like to reassure them that additional officers will be in the area to provide reassurance.

“However, be assured, we are doing everything we can to locate those responsible and if you have any information then please do pass it on.

“A team of officers is dedicated to this investigation and we will use all available resources to trace those responsible for this attack.”
