Tickets for the UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Glasgow will go on sale to the general public today at 2pm.

The three-day event at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome is set to attract many of the world's best riders from November 4-6.

It kicks off the 2016/17 UCI Track Cycling World Cup series with racing to follow in Apeldoorn (Netherlands), Cali (Colombia) and Los Angeles (USA).

Glasgow last welcomed the UCI Track Cycling World Cup in 2012 when tickets for all key sessions sold out in less than an hour.

It will see the Great Britain cycling team return to international competition on home soil for the first time following the Rio 2016 Olympic Games next month.

The thrilling racing schedule in Glasgow will feature 14 gold medals being awarded.

Scottish cycling star Callum Skinner, who set to make his Olympic debut in Rio, said he was delighted that the action-packed event was returning to the city where he was born.

"There's no feeling like racing in the velodrome," he said. "Sir Chris Hoy inspired me take up track cycling, so it's a very special place for me.

"The Track Cycling World Cup will be something you don't want to miss – I can see it being another sell-out."

British Cycling Go-Ride Youth and Junior Cycle Club, Glasgow Riderz, paid a special visit to the velodrome to mark the ticket launch.

Deputy leader of Glasgow City Council and chairman of Glasgow Life, Councillor Archie Graham, said: "Preparations are well under way to make sure the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome is ready for the action and we can't wait to welcome the thousands of spectators to Glasgow.

"The last time the Track Cycling World Cup came to the city in 2012, the tickets sold out in under an hour so if you're planning on coming along, make sure you snap up your tickets today."
