A man is in a serious condition after being stabbed in an incident police are treating as attempted murder.

Officers were called to a house on Bridge of Weir Road in Linwood, Renfrewshire, at around 3.20am on Tuesday and found the injured 29-year-old.

He was taken by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, where he is being treated for stab wounds and is in a serious condition.

Detective Sergeant Michael Lochrie said: "Our inquiries are at an early stage to establish more information on the circumstances surrounding this incident and to establish where it took place in the local area.

"I would urge anyone who was in the area of Bridge of Weir Road in Linwood in the early hours of this morning who witnessed anything suspicious, or who has information that may assist police inquiries, to contact Paisley police office through 101.
