Glasgow's newest reality TV show Glow has been criticised for not representing the people of the city – before it has even aired.

Comedian Janey Godley says the show does not represent the people of Glasgow after seeing the cast which was unveiled to the public on Tuesday.

The Caucasian cast features ex-Rangers WAG Lauren McDonald and Merchant City nightclub owner Brian Matthews, and they were picked from over 3,000 applications.

She said: “It doesn’t represent the Glasgow that I have known and loved. It’s not like I am a wee woman who sits in the house and doesn’t know anything.

“I go out every single weekend and it doesn’t represent the people.”

She added: “It doesn’t represent the cross section of society. Where are those really hip young Asians boys that are super cool with their fancy cars?

“Where are those beautiful Asian women? Where are the Polish immigrants? Where are some of the interesting people?

“And why does every single women have to work in a beauty salon?”

The stand-up, whose daughter Ashley Storrie is also in the comedy circuit, explained that she is not too concerned about the portrayal of the city on the show because of its online base.

She said: “It’s an online show so people will need to choose to watch it. It’s not like it is being presented in the mainstream media.

“There is a place for everything. But if you present that as this is Glasgow. There is no one with ginger hair or freckles, or even someone who wears socks.”

She added: “An online TV show about the city of Glasgow that features women who look like they stepped out of Dallas? Nobody from Castlemilk walks about like that.”

Hype is already growing for the new show which has been dubbed the city's answer to Made in Chelsea and TOWIE.

Glow will be aired weekly every Thursday from October 20 at 7pm on a dedicated online channel and via an app which has been designed for fans to catch up with episodes.

The show is a first for production firm GRTV who say their goal is to shine a positive light on Glasgow.

A spokesman for the show said: “The eleven cast members were selected according to their performance during their audition, regardless of their gender, ethnicity or sexual orientation.

"However additional cast members have also been contracted to appear and will be introduced at a later stage.”

You can watch Glow on www.glasglow.tv from Thursday, October 20.
