A STUDENT was punched in the face by a man on college grounds after having “banter”.

Ryan Lamont, 21, of Lochgoin Avenue, Drumchapel, appeared in the dock at Glasgow Sheriff Court after pleading guilty to assaulting a female student.

The accused was at the City of Glasgow College on February 18 2016 where he became involved in conversation with a friend.

The court was told by the Procurator Fiscal depute that the pair had some “toing and froing” around 2.30pm.

The female was aware that the accused, who was a student at the time, was trying to wind her up.

When she began to laugh, the accused asked her what she was laughing at.

She went on to make a rude gesture towards Lamont while he walked away from the scene.

The pair came together once again at the lift area where the complainer threw the contents of a bottle of Coca-Cola over him.

As a result, Lamont punched the female student numerous times on the face before fleeing the scene.

The complainer contacted the police and went to the Royal Infirmary where she was treated for damage to the cartilage on the nose.

Lamont’s defence agent told the court that his client had been removed from the college course as a result of the incident.

He was ordered to undergo 210 hours of unpaid work in the community within six months.
