A supermarket is hoping to get Glaswegians in the mood for romance with its latest offer.

Morrisons will be selling oysters for 25p in its stores in the run-up to Valentine's Day on February 14.

The news comes as new research by the supermarket giant revealed that 60 per cent of Scots have never tried the famous aphrodisiac.

Morrisons is buying 200,000 oysters, two third of the UK's stock of retail oysters and the most that have ever been sold in Valentine's Week.

The shellfish will be available to buy in six packs or as individuals.

According to the retailer, the average cost of an oyster in the UK is £1.59, £1.34 more expensive than Morrisons Valentine's treats.

The firm has also created a special video to show first timers how to shuck and prepare the delicious shellfish.

Stephen Bannan, store manager at Morrisons Auchinlea, said: “Morrisons is making this exclusive shellfish affordable, offering customers a taste of luxury for the average price of a pack of crisps. Half of our British oysters end up being shipped abroad and we thought our customers might like more for themselves.”

The oysters are available in store from today until Valentine's Day.
