A DRUNKEN thug assaulted and threatened to kill a woman as she made her way to get the bus to work in Glasgow city centre.
Lee Burns, 20, appeared in the dock for sentencing at Glasgow Sheriff Court after pleading guilty to assaulting the woman.
His charge sheet stated that he pushed the woman on the body against a wall while making threats to kill her.
The attack happened on October 28, 2015.
The Procurator Fiscal depute Louise MacNiel told the court that the woman had alighted a bus on Argyle Street at Glasgow Central at around 6.10am.
She then crossed the road to get a second bus to work and it was at Oswald Street near to Argyle Street she met her attacker Burns.
Ms MacNiel told the court that the victim heard a voice saying: “I’ll f*****g kill you.”
Burns pushed the woman on the body and then proceeded to shout at her.
He screamed: “I’ll kill you. I’ll f****** kill you.”
The woman managed to escape Burns and the police were contacted.
The court heard that Burns told police officers: “I am sorry. I didn’t mean to give her a fright or scare her. I am not normally violent.”
Burns defence agent told the court that his client had been drinking alcohol prior to the incident.
He said: “It appears to be completely out of character.”
He added: “Perhaps his only explanation is the level of intoxication.”
Sentencing Sheriff Kelly told Burns that he had avoided jail.
Instead, Burns, of Hume Street, Clydebank, has been placed on a Community Payback Order of 250 hours of unpaid work to be completed within nine months.
This was reduced from 300 hours of unpaid work in the community because of his early plea.
Sheriff Kelly said: “You may well not recollate much about this but it must have been a terrifying experience for the victim.”
He added: “Be aware I am imposing this as an alternative to custody.”
