A MAN who stole items from cars has been ordered by a court to pay compensation to his victims.

Alexander Whitelock, 37, appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court for sentencing after pleading guilty to the offence.

He plead guilty to forcing open two lockfast motor vehicles on November 16, 2015 at Colintraive Crescent, Glasgow.

He stole a Sat Nav system and clothing from the first car which amounted to £180.

A CD, sunglasses and mobile phone holder were among the items taken from the second car. Those items were worth £215.

The court heard that no recovery was made.

Whitelock, of Moodiesburn Street, was also in court to face sentencing for a failure to appear.

He failed to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on June 1, last year without a reasonable excuse.

He had been granted bail for the thefts on January 22, 2016.

The court heard that Whitelock’s offending started up because he was going through a separation with his wife.

The court heard that this resulted in him taking drugs again.

He previously had a heroin addiction.

Whitelock avoided jail and was told he would have to complete unpaid work in the community.

He will complete 180 hours of unpaid work in the community within six months.

A compensation order for £180 and £215 was also put in place.
