OUR sensational Scotswoman of the Year is heading for Number 10…

Laura Young, who was crowned 2016 winner at a gala dinner last month, has been invited to attend a special reception for International Women’s Day tomorrow (Thursday).

Laura, who was awarded the Evening Times title for her inspirational support of seriously ill children, said: “I’m really delighted to be invited to Downing Street.

“I am looking forward to meeting many inspirational women, from all walks of life - from science, the media, law, sport, charities and more, from all over the UK.

“It will be fascinating and a great opportunity.”

Laura set up the art therapy charity Teapot Trust following the death of her eight-year-old daughter Verity, who had lupus and cancer.

In just a few years it has grown to become a nationally-respected service, with 17 art therapists working in 22 hospitals and hospices around the UK, providing a lifeline to countless chronically ill children and their families.

Laura added: “It will be lovely to go down to Number 10 as Scotswoman of the Year, as well as representing the Teapot Trust.

“I hope I can be a voice for other strong Scottish women championing good causes across the whole of the British Isles.”
