MORE than 50,000 cigarettes have been seized on raids clamping down on illegal tobacco in Glasgow.
The suspect goods were found hidden in a stereo speakers, boxes, and behind shop counters when officers visited various shops across the city.
Around 25 officers from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), plus Glasgow City Council’s Trading Standards and Police Scotland, visited 25 retail premises across the city yesterday.
The haul, seized from nine shops, included 50,117 cigarettes, with an estimated £21,420 duty, and 6.15 kilos of hand-rolling tobacco, with an estimated £1,438 duty.
