A MAN who crashed into a police car and assaulted an officer has avoided going to prison.
Albbari Arshad, of Crossbank Drive, was stopped by an unmarked police car as his vehicle braked sharply, causing the officers to take evasive action to avoid a collision on April 9, last year.
After being stopped, Arshad, 35, tried to manoeuvre into a space and struck the police car.
He then got out of the car and swung his arm, striking a female police officer on the face.
He was taken to Cathcart police office where he refused to take a breath test as requested.
Arshad appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court for sentencing after pleading guilty to driving without care or attention, assaulting a police officer and refusing to take a breath test.
Sheriff Cameron sentenced the accused to undergo 180 hours of community service, disqualified him from driving for 44 months.
