Glasgow’s newest boutique festival - which had been set to take place in Glasgow Green this month - has been cancelled.

Organisers Robert Hicks and Petra Wetzel have issued a statement on the event’s site which is sure to disappoint legions of fans who had been looking forward to the two-day event on May bank holiday weekend, Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 May.

The pair said: “It is with a very heavy heart we have taken the decision to cancel the debut May West.

“We wanted to try and achieve something new whilst maintaining a low and affordable ticket price.

“With location issues, mounting costs and circumstances beyond our control, sadly this is not to be.

“We have tried to secure alternative locations within the city, but time is now against us to move the show.

“We would like to thank all those who have bought tickets and supported our vision.”

The pair has assured ticket holders they will be able to get a refund from where their purchased.

Festival fans across the city had been kept on their toes with an announcement in March that a brand new two-day music event was set to hit the city.

Organised by WEST Brewery, fans music fans were teased on social media with a short trailer and the accompanying tagline ‘Something new is brewing in Glasgow’.

The Stranglers were set to headline the event after more details on the festival were given.

The English rock band have now told their fans: “Apologies to any fans planning to travel to this gig.”

May West’s aim was to fill the gap in the city’s events calendar for a musically-eclectic, entertainment-rich festival.
