THE Lions Road duo Barry Sweeney and Martin Coyle have travelled through most of mainland Europe in their green-and-white Hillman Imp - taking them a step closer to Lisbon.

The Evening Times reported last week that the Bishopbriggs pair were driving to Portugal to recognise the 50th anniversary of the Lisbon Lions’ European Cup win.

The cousins are retracing the miles, our former journalist John Quinn covered in 1967 in a green-and-white Hillman Imp, when he led the ‘Celticade’ of 15,000 fans heading for Lisbon.

They left from Alexandria Parade on Friday supported by family and friends, and some well-known faces including the daughter of Lisbon Lions legend Jimmy Johnstone, Eileen.
The 'bhoys' have been posting pictures of their famous car, which is nicknamed Jinky, on social media.
So far, they have travelled through Bordeaux, Biarritz and Bilbao.
They will follow John’s original route through France and across the Pyrenees into Spain before arriving in Lisbon’s Estadio Nacional on Thursday. They are travelling with a film crew for the documentary The Lions Road.
