A YOUNG mum scratched a woman in the face after birthday celebrations in the city centre.

Chelsea Aitchison, 19, attacked the woman at a taxi rank after asking if she had called her fat.

Mum-of-one Aitchison had been marking her 18th birthday with a night out in Glasgow, and had been to a nightclub before getting food in a takeaway.

As she walked along the street she challenged a 21-year-old who was waiting for a taxi, around 3.30 am, and said:" Did you just call me fat?"

Aitchison then lashed out and scratched the woman in the face.

She appeared at Glasgow Sheriff court for sentencing this week, having pleaded guilty to the assault.

The Procurator Fiscal told the court:" The complainer and her friend were waiting at to go home after a night out.

"At this time they were approached by the accused who confronted the pair.

"The accused then proceeded to attack [the victim] by scratching her to the face."

Aitchison's lawyer said had "left a nightclub some for and it was then she responded to a comment she believed she heard."

She said her client recognised that she had drunk too much and has since reduced her alcohol intake.

Sheriff McConnell said she was pleased that Aitchison, of Prospecthill Street in Greenock, was now working and studying and overall was trying to do the best for her child.

She explained that she would defer her sentence for six months to allow her to continue to make good progress and be of good behaviour.
