A MUM has launched a petition after her child was refused entry to her late big brother's school.

As the Evening Times previously reported, Stacey Molloy had applied to have her daughter Paige join Spittal Primary at the start of the new school year in August.

The school is attended by her son Reece, 7, and was where her eldest child Ryan was a pupil.

Tragically little Ryan passed away in 2014 from a brain tumour, when he was just six years old.

Stacey, 30, from Castlemilk, said the school in Rutherglen has provided excellent support for Reece, and even has a tribute bench for Ryan where Reece goes to find comfort.

She hopes South Lanarkshire Council will be able to accommodate Paige, despite refusing her placing request before the new term started in August.

It is understood the local authority has now issued paperwork to Stacey so she can request a place at Spittal for a second time.

She is now hoping it means Paige will be granted a place at the school.

It comes after she launched a petition this week calling for the decision to be reconsidered, which has so far gathered more than 1300 signatures in just two days.

She said:"I'm really concerned over Paige's education.

"She's missing a whole hour every day in school because she's late in & late being picked up, but I cannot be in 2 places at once.

"My three kids had a very special bond, Reece and Paige need each other to look after each other and right now it's becoming impossible because they are separated.

"When Ryan was here and spent time in hospital they had each other, and they have been through enough in their young lives. "

Stacey said Paige is "not feeling involved" in her current school because she wants desperately;y to be at Spittal with her brother.

Having two young children at different primaries is also proving a challenge for Stacey and her family, who say they "can't be in two places at once" and so are frequently late for drop-off and pick-up time.

Stacey added: "Paige had a school show the other night and she didn't go because her heart isn't in it.

"She just wants to be at the same school as Reece, where her big brother went to."

South Lanarkshire Council said they have now reviewed the issue, and a place has been identified at the school.

they said it would be able to be "formally offered" to Paige once all the paper work is completed.

A spokesman said: "I can confirm that following a review a place has been identified at Spittal Primary that we will be able to formally offer once the relevant paperwork has been submitted.”
