UPDATE: South Lanarkshire schools on lockdown as police in stand off with armed Blantyre man
Firearms officers are currently surrounding a house in Blantyre after reports of a man in possession of a weapon.
Negotiators and uniformed officers are also at the scene on Morris Crescent, where a man has barricaded himself in a house with a crossbow.
Early reports have suggested that the suspect may have taken a woman hostage.
A cordon has been put in place around the property as teams attempt to disarm the man.
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "Officers currently dealing with an incident in Morris Crescent where a man is within a house in possession of a crossbow.
"Firearms officers, negotiators and uniformed officers are at the scene and a cordon has been put in place as a precaution."
Earlier in the year, a bomb squad was called to another property in the area.
Police sealed off streets at a residential property after an 'old weapon' was found at an address in Kirkton Avenue in June.
Dramatic scenes unfolded as a police and a team of Royal Navy bomb disposal experts arrived outside the property.
It is understood an old weapon and ammunition was discovered at the property.
A remote controlled device used to deal with explosives could be seen in the street outside.
