A MAN has appeared in court after smashing the door of his
ex-partner’s home with a hammer after they broke up.
David Burnett went to the woman’s home on Ettick Court in Cambuslang in possession of the object on September 24.
She became aware of the 51-year-old banging at the door asking to be let in around 6.30pm.
In response, she told him to leave the premises and to dispose of the hammer at the front door.
Instead, Burnett then repeatedly struck a glass window with the hammer causing it to smash.
Words were exchanged between the two before he eventually left.
Burnett, of Gateside Avenue in Cambuslang, appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court for sentencing after pleading guilty to the incident.
The court heard how he had taken the hammer to the house in order to give it back to his ex, as it belonged to her.
It was noted that he was very apologetic to the female and told her that he loved her.
Sheriff Sinclair commented that Burnett’s conduct “could not be tolerated by the court”.
He was fined a total of £300 to cover the cost of the damage to the door.
