THE MOTHER of murdered soldier Lee Rigby has told how Rangers fans have become “a second family” to her after her son’s death.

She has also described Glasgow as being “like a second home.”

Fusilier Rigby, 25, was brutally stabbed to death outside the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich, south London, in May 2013 while off duty.

His killers, Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale, were sentenced to life in prison in December 2013 after they were found guilty of his murder.

The Ibrox club’s supporters have raised tens of thousands for the Lee Rigby Foundation - set up by Lyn - and thousands of fans have also turned out to show their support for the slain soldier in the annual Lee Rigby Memorial Cup.

Lyn, 51, said of the Light Blues side: “For them to take Lee into their hearts is amazing. They’re helping our family do something positive out of his murder. They have been like a second family.

“They’ve always been there for us. Lee would be over the moon. He was a Man United fan, but he’d be overwhelmed. There was no connection with Rangers before Lee’s death.”

“But their fans have since done a lot of fundraising. We’ve made friends up there and we still visit them. Glasgow is like a second home to us now,” she added, reports The Scottish Sun.

Rangers fans were left beaming with her comments, with many having rushed to online fan forums to show their appreciation.

Writing on the Follow Follow fanzine, one supporter said: “And that right there makes you feel humble and part of the greatest fans group in the world. What a brave woman.”

Another added: “Can’t imagine the anguish suffered by this woman. My heart goes out to her. I’m proud of our support.”

“Great that they have taken some comfort from Gers fans efforts. RIP Lee Rigby,” was another comment.

As reported by the Evening Times last year, Lyn broke down and labelled Celtic fans “scum” after video footage emerged of supporters mocking her son’s death with a sick chant.

She described how she had not “stopped crying” since a clip surfaced online showing Hoops fans in Sunderland walking along a street while chanting “f*** Lee Rigby, he won’t be f****** drumming anymore” ahead of the friendly Dafabet Cup clash in August.

She had called on Celtic Football Club to “denounce these scum wearing their team’s shirt” and to crack down on supporters who behaved in such a way.

Lyn has previously praised the public for their support while criticising the Ministry of Defence.

She told the BBC last year she had received no contact from the MoD to “check we’re okay” in the wake of the attack.

Lynn said: “The support we had was from people we’d never met - the public. The Ministry of Defence … barely support people who aren’t listed as next of kin. The main charities didn’t want to know.”
