RANGERS are poised to finalise a move for defender Connor Goldson within the next 48 hours.

SportTimes revealed last week that a fee of around £3million had been agreed with Brighton and Hove Albion for the highly-rated stopper.

And it is understood Goldson is now on the brink of putting pen-to-paper on a three-year deal with the Light Blues to secure his switch north of the border.

Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard kicked off his summer rebuilding job by adding Scott Arfield and Allan McGregor to his squad as they arrived on free transfers from Burnley and Hull respectively.

Jamie Murphy made his move from Brighton permanent last month before Ovie Ejaria was reunited with his former Liverpool coach as he completed a loan switch from Anfield.

Goldson is now set to become the fifth deal of the close season as Gerrard lands one of his key transfer targets ahead of the new campaign.

The Liverpool legend will arrive back in Glasgow this week as he and his new-look staff - Gary McAllister, Michael Beale, Tom Culshaw, Jordan Milsom and Colin Stewart - get down to business with the Light Blues.

The Gers squad will return to action on Friday as Gerrard puts his players through their paces for the first time.

And the Ibrox boss will then take his side to Spain for a ten day training camp as he steps up his preparations for the Europa League qualifiers and his first crack at the Premiership.

Gerrard will discover his opponents for his first two competitive clashes when the Europa League draw is made in Nyon on June 20.
