A £1million fund to tackle hospital repairs has been branded, ‘a drop in the ocean,’ by a councillor.

Renfrewshire Council wrote to NHSGGC and the Scottish Government, after a motion was passed at full council in late June asking for repairs to take place at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, “as a matter of urgency.”

Dr Jennifer Armstrong, medical director of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde gave assurances that £1million had been set aside to tackle repairs.

However, Labour Councillor Carolann Davidson, who put forward the motion was not satisfied with the sum.

She said: “What the RAH needs is £36 million to clear the repair and maintenance backlog. What it has got is pocket change.”

A spokeswoman for NHSGGC said: “We spend a significant sum from our capital budget on maintaining and improving all of our hospitals every year, including the RAH.”
