SHAMED Rangers legend Ian Durrant last night apologised for his bigoted comment of “f*** the Pope” at a recent public event.

The 51-year-old was caught on film making the offensive remark at a football legends dinner at the Bothwell Bridge Hotel in Lanarkshire earlier this month.

Durrant was at the top table at the October 12 dinner when, after speaking about ex-Celtic chairman John Reid, he then made the derogatory comment.

It sparked a cheer from the crowd, who had paid up to £99 a head to attend the event.

Durrant said: “I’d like to apologise for my comment at a recent Sportsman’s Dinner event in Lanarkshire. I meant to cause no offence to anyone.”

Immediately after the incident, Barry Ferguson said “f***the SFA” which related to Rangers’ belief they were treated unfairly by the Scottish football authorities in the run up to their UEFA Cup final in 2008 against Zenit St Petersburg in Manchester.
