TWO male nurses caught indecent images of children have been struck off the register.
Stewart Taylor downloaded hundreds of indecent images of children at his home in Paisley and then shared them online.
He admitted the charges and was jailed for more than three years last year and placed on the Sex Offenders’ Registers for 10 years.
He has now been dealt the most severe sanction by nursing regulators.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) was shown a letter from Police Scotland which told how officers acting on warrant seized ‘several’ laptops from Taylor’s home which contained images of children being abused.
The NMC was told there was ‘no evidence’ that Taylor had shown insight, remorse or remediation.
They said: “Nothing less than a striking off order would be
sufficient to protect patients or to maintain public confidence in the profession.”
In a separate case, Andrew Bryce, a mental health nurse, working in Ayrshire, was convicted of downloading and possessing indecent images of children, which were described as “high level B indecent images”.
Bryce was arrested on April 19 last year. He was sentenced at Ayr Sheriff Court on March 18 this year to a Community Payback Order and placed on the Sex Offenders Register.
He has now been stripped of his nursing registration after the panel found there was a ‘risk of repetition.’
The NMC said: “The panel was of the view that the findings in this particular case demonstrate
that Mr Bryce’s actions were serious and deplorable and to allow him to continue
practising would put patients at risk.”
Both nurses are entitled to appeal the decision.
