GENEROUS runners have donated 18 bags of clothing to help refugees in Glasgow.

A call went out during the Great Scottish Run - along with Glasgow Club and charity Refuweegee - for people to give sportswear.

The clothes will now be handed over to Refuweegee to be distributed among refugees arriving in the city, who sometimes do not have the sports clothing needed to keep active.

Selina Hales, Founder of Refuweegee, said: “We have once again been blown away by the generosity and kindness shown by people across the city.

“Refuweegee launches its first running club in December with a park run in Pollok Park, so the donations gathered from this drive will allow us to support individuals and families who would not previously have had the necessary clothing or footwear to participate.

"And for those who won’t be participating in the running club, as a result of the huge response we’ll be able to pass on comfy trainers and warm clothing for whatever tactility people do choose.

“We’d like to thank everyone involved for making a huge difference to people who now find themselves living in Glasgow and Scotland.”

Eight Glasgow Club gyms across the city, including Pollok, Gorbals, Bellahouston and Springburn got involved in the initiative.

Alex Jackson, Event Director at The Great Run Company said: “The response to our sportswear amnesty has been overwhelming, with a stream of donations coming in from Glasgow Club members over the past few months.

"From everyone at The Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run, I would like to thank those who took the time to clean out their wardrobes and pick out sportswear and accessories to donate."
