A TEENAGER was seriously injured after being hit on the head with a gang of thugs in a vicious New Year's Day attack.

Around 3pm the 19 year-old man was in the lane between Robert Smillie Crescent and Westerton Avenue in Larkhall when he was approached by a group of men.

He was punched in face and hit in the head with a solid blunt object.

The group, of around three people, then made off towards Robert Smillie Crescent.

The teen made his way home before attending hospital a day later, however, the incident was not reported to police until January 7.

Officers are currently scrutinising CCTV and making door to door enquiries. Efforts to obtain a full description of those responsible are being made.

Detective Constable Stewart Walton, Cambuslang CID, said: “This was a brutal attack and the man, who did not realise how serious his head and facial injuries were until the following day, has since had to attend hospital on multiple occasions for treatment.

“Officers are carrying out enquiries and are still trying to establish a motive.

“We are appealing for anyone who may have seen this group on men, only described as wearing tracksuit bottoms and hoodies, in the area on New Year’s Day.

“You may also have dash-cam footage or personal house security camera footage that could help us, please think back.

“Violence will not be tolerated in our communities and we will do everything we can to trace those responsible.”
