AN EDINBURGH gang has targeted a designer clothing store in Glasgow Fort, a councillor has said.

It's understood thugs from the capital travelled to the Easterhouse shopping centre around 2am this morning and raided the shop of around £40,000 worth of merchandise.

The area's Councillor Maureen Burke said the Tessuti robbery must not reflect badly on the area as the culprits travelled more than 45 miles to carry out the theft.

She told the Evening Times: "The Fort is very precious to me as a councillor and an elected member.

"It's a bit tragic given how well the shops have been doing.

"It seems [the gang] have been doing a spate of ram raids but the measures that have been put in place at the Fort have always been efficient."

She added: "It's not a reflection of how Easterhouse is. This is the first incident in 15 years."

An Audi used in the raid has since been recovered in Ratho.

It's believed a jewellers in the capital was also targeted.

Cllr Ruairi Kelly added: "Robberies like this are an attack on the local community, they adversely impact the lives of employees and damage the local economy.

"I would encourage anyone with any information or who is offered any suspected stolen goods to contact the police.

"The Fort is a fantastic shipping facility in the North East of the city and people should feel safe to shop and work in the area without the threat of this sort of criminal activity.”
