IT was the end of another long week at Tec Towers when the Moll decided to bring the curtain down on her latest fad.

“I can’t do it Tec”, she groaned, “I’m just not cut out for this lifestyle. I quit!”

“You’re really going to give up your weekly spending sprees?” I asked, acting puzzled.

Spending sprees? Dollface barked back in disbelief.

“I needed a coat. Would you rather

I ended up with pneumonia?”

“What about the shoes last week and the handbag the week before?” I inquired.

Essentials. But if you’d rather I walked barefoot and slung all my belongings around in a carrier bag… Anyway, you’re missing the point. I’m giving up on ‘Veganuary’.”

‘Well that lasted long’, I thought as I rolled my eyes. “At least your Veganuary lasted longer than your ‘dry January’ attempt. You almost made it past tea time…”

“Whatever”, she replied, “talking of tea time, I’m starving. Let’s go out.”

“I know just the place for you Toots”, I said confidently.

We jumped into the Buick and off we went to Cocktails and Steaks in Uddingston.

As we walked into the cosy little restaurant, we were greeted with a warm smile by the waitress who showed us to our table upstairs.

We dived straight into the menu, and we were not disappointed by the large selection of cocktails and steaks.

For her starter, Goldilocks went for the ham hock, wholegrain mustard and parsley croquette which came with a delicious apple and plum chutney. The ham hock was beautifully tender and the flavour of the dish was incredible. Top marks.

I started with the wild mushroom and garlic bruschetta which came on a toasted brioche with balsamic glaze. It was another hit.

The selection of mushrooms were cooked to perfection and the balsamic glaze gave the dish a delicious balance.

On to the main and this time the Moll decided to go for the fillet of beef stroganoff which came with rice in a creamy mustard and paprika sauce.

The meat was perfectly tender and the rice was ideal for soaking up the mouth-watering sauce.

It was an excellent dish and the portion size was just right.

I went for ‘the butcher’s burger’. The dish consisted of a seven-ounce burger topped with cheese, bacon, caramelised onions, beef tomato, baby gem lettuce and coleslaw.

The burger had an amazing smoky flavour while the bacon was crispy and the caramelised onions added a touch of sweetness to the dish.

It was served with skinny fries, which were plentiful and very tasty.

Cocktails and Steaks did not disappoint and the ideal way to bring an end to ‘dry January’ or ‘Veganuary’.
