AN historic building in the Merchant City is due to be the new home of Channel 4 when it opens its new offices in Glasgow.

Channel 4 says it is in "advanced negotiations" with Castleforge Partners to lease just over 4,000 sq ft in The Garment Factory building, and will use it as its new Creative Hub.

The broadcaster plans to lease the space on the first floor of the building, in Montrose Street in the city centre, which has recently undergone a refurbishment.

The Garment Factory is a large building in the Merchant City Central Conservation Area.

Built in 1898, it was originally the garment factory of J & W Campbell.

Channel 4 intends to take up the space in the building from late 2019.

Jonathan Allan, Channel 4’s chief commercial officer said: "We’ve seen a range of incredibly impressive potential options across the city as a home for our new Creative Hub in Glasgow.

"However, The Garment Factory stood out as an iconic building which would give us the flexibility of space we need and the proximity to other creative businesses and services in Glasgow city centre.”

Alistair Urquhart, associate director, CBRE, which is negotiating the deal, said: “The Garment Factory is a modern and unique building which will provide an ideal fit for Channel 4.

"Having advised Channel 4 on a series of property related matters we are delighted to be close to securing the first of its regional hubs."

Channel 4 announced in October that Glasgow would be the location of one of its new Creative Hubs, alongside another in Bristol, with Leeds named as a new National HQ.
