Seven jihadists have been imprisoned for life for their involvement in the 2015 Tunisian terrorist attacks that resulted in the deaths of four people from Scotland, including a couple from Cumbernauld.

Both Scottish couples died during the second attack, carried out at Port El Kantaouia in Sousse, Tunisia.

In total 60 people died as a result of the gun and grenade attacks and many more were injured.

Three of the gunmen also died.

Jim and Anne McQuire from Cumbernauld and Billy and Lisa Graham from Perth were shot during the attack.

Mr McQuire was known for volunteering at the local Boys Brigade where he had helped hundreds of young people over many years.

Mr and Mrs McQuire were said to be 'devoted to each other'.

In a statement released at the time of the tragedy Mr and Mrs McQuire's family said: "My Mum and Dad will be sorely missed by my wife and I, the rest of the family and the wider community.

"They were a couple devoted to each other and who lived to enjoy life. They spent their lives contributing so much to the community."

A 2017 inquiry found that Mr McQuire waited longer than 20 minutes for an ambulance.

Islamic State claimed responsibility for both of the Tunisian attacks.

Imene Truqui, the lawyer representing the 24 suspects, offered condolences to all families affected by the attack and insisted that the trial was being held in a democratic atmosphere, with all parties granted the right to defend themselves.
