POLICE have charged seven boys - with the youngest aged just 11 - after a huge brawl broke out in a Glasgow Tesco.

The Evening Times previously reported how an elderly woman and a man had been taken to hospital after the large-scale fight, involving 25 baseball bat and glass bottle-wielding youths, on Tuesday night on Sauchiehall Street.

The force has since confirmed the fight took place inside the supermarket and that a number of those involved have been charged.

A 17-year-old man was rushed to hospital after being seriously assaulted and an elderly woman, aged 84, was also hurt during the attack.

One Evening Times reader who was at the scene described the sheer scale of the massive fight.

He told us: “I was walking down Hill Street behind a group of 15.

“When it met Rose Street, another group of 10 joined them. They smashed the bottles they were carrying against the church wall. I counted four bats. They all charged off in direction of the GFT. They must have been aged around 11 to 14. Great sight for city tourism.”

He added: “When I came back later, Tesco on Sauchiehall Street, near the GFT, was cordoned off. Ambulance and police were there. Reports said youths with bats went in and someone was stabbed.”
