We love you Glasgow, there's no denying it, it's got its crusty bits and it's a little bit rough around the edges, but what a city to live and work in.

Our history, the foodie industry, free museums, free education, and the world renowned characters. It might be like having hundreds of eccentric uncles, but they're our eccentric uncles. And we wouldn't have it any other way.

We also love the beautiful everyday awkwardness of living and working in a city like Glasgow.

Here are our favourite beautifully embarrasing moments you face in a city like Glasgow...

1. Walking in on someone on the toilet in Central Station toilets

There's nothing more cringe worthy than forking out your money in the Central Station toilets, making your way to a cubicle, swinging the door open only to discover that the person before you forgot to lock the door.

Is there a more awkward and apologetic eye to eye contact?

Cue five minutes of hiding in the nearest cubicle, praying that you never have to face that person again.

2. Holding the door open at St Enoch Centre or Buchanan Galleries...forever

So it's common courtesy to hold the door open for the nearest person to you, it's just a nice thing to do.

But there's nothing worse than holding the door open for one person and suddenly every person from every shop decides to leave at the same time through the door you've held open.

Cancel any appointments you had for the next three days, you aren't going anywhere.

3. Dropping a pint in Spoons on Sauchiehall Street at the weekend

You've managed to safely dodge seven people, a dog, three bar staff running in opposite directions carrying burning hot food, you get to the table carrying your pint, place it on the edge of the table, disaster.

The smash echoes through the bar, and instantaneously you are rewarded with a mocking cheer from everyone in the bar, the bar staff instead offer you a glowering stare of death.

Welcome to infamy friend, you're never getting served again.

4. The single step, and the gap of doom, getting on a train at Queen Street Station

This one might seem a bit strange but it can't only be us who kind of panics a little bit, the moment before stepping on a train, the horrible gap between platform and the train and the really awkward step to get on, whatever you do don't look down.

Never crossed your mind? Whoops it has now.

5. The awkward eye contact on the Central Station train home

It's been a long day, your feet are killing you, amazing you've managed to grab a table seat on the train, only thirty seconds longer and you've got it all to yourself.

And then it happens, they sit down, awkward smile, move the bags and stare out the window for the next 25 minutes.

How about when both of you stare out the window and catch each other's gaze, in the window.

Off at the next stop, how many miles to home, 25? Blizzard conditions? Aw it probably seems worse than it is, it'll be fine.

6. Trying to hand over or grab your change from the cashier

This one relates to pretty much any shop or bar anywhere in Glasgow. You've literally paid with cash and received cash thousands of times but add a queue of stressed people, and a busy shop and your hands become 12 sizes too big, and literally forget the basic actions required to hand over or receive money.

And don't even mention the horror of dropping the change on the counter before handing it over. Contactless you life saver.

7. Standing in a queue for a bar on Bath Street

It's Friday night, you've fed the cat, watered the plants, worked hard all week, and you're looking forward to grabbing a well earned beer with the guys. Standing casually in the queue should be fine.

No worries, so what the bouncer looks angry, wait he's asking for ID, and it's only been 19 years since you were 18. Wait what's your date of birth? Wait what is your name?

After answering the bouncer's harmless question of 'whether you're having a good night' with a mixture of your surname and post code. You run out the queue and sprint immediately home. For the third week in a row.

It's fine you didn't really want a beer anyway.
