Much-loved Scottish actor Robbie Coltrane has been spotted using a wheelchair for the first time due to horrendous knee pain

The Rutherglen-born Harry Potter star, 68, is said to be in agony due to osteoarthritis, leaving him reliant on a wheelchair while he awaits knee surgery. 

He made his first public appearance in a wheelchair earlier this week at an event for the film series. 

A source close to the actor told the Scottish Sun: "Robbie has been in constant pain for years now, with his knee constantly deteriorating.

“It’s left him unable to walk without any assistance and he’s been given a wheelchair while he waits to have a special surgical procedure in America to repair his joint.

“He was wheeled in and out of the Harry Potter event on Monday which came as a big shock to fans given they’re so used to seeing him standing strong and tall as Hagrid.

“It’s hugely frustrating for him but he’s really hoping to be back on his feet after getting the operation.”

The Hagrid actor admitted at the event that he is due a new knee. However, he stressed than after his surgery he would be as good as new. 

The actor has previously worked with a walking stick, appearing in Channel 4 drama National Treasure in 2016.
