SHOCKED parents found out on Facebook that a body had been found at their children’s school.
Staff at Our Lady of Rosary Primary in Cardonald had to usher pupils inside early after the alarm was raised around 12.30pm yesterday, during the youngsters’ lunch break.
It is thought a workman, who was not employed by the council, made the grim discovery in a remote part of the school’s grounds.
Police were called to the Tarfside Gardens scene and enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the man’s death, which is being treated as unexplained.
A neighbour living in Tarfside Gardens said: “It’s a complete shock, I didn’t know what had happened but thought it was strange that I didn’t hear the kids out playing like they normally would be at lunchtime.
“I’d imagine it’s pretty traumatising for the school.
“The kids are normally at after school clubs as well playing basketball but
it’s been eerily silent today.”
Officers remained at the school until late last night as forensics officers examined the scene and ground next to the nearby Cardonald Cemetery.
A police spokeswoman: “At around 12.30pm police were called to reports of the body of a man being found inside school grounds at an area of Tarfside Gardens in Glasgow.
“A post-mortem examination is due to take place to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the death.
“Police are currently treating the death as unexplained. A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.”
All parents have since been informed.
A council spokeswoman said: “Police were called to the school after the discovery of a body in a remote part of the school grounds during lunchtime.
“The children were unaware of the incident and taken to class and out of sight of anything going on.”
The council confirmed the school would open as normal today.
