A NEW discount supermarket is set to be unveilved next week close to Glasgow with the creation of 40 new jobs. 

Lidl has confirmed that its new store in Renfrew Road Retail Park, Paisley, will open its doors for the first time on Thursday, May 9. 

The new store in Paisley is Lidl’s 98th in Scotland, and forms part of the company’s growth plans to open more than 50 stores across Great Britain in the next year.

Lidl GB’s regional head of property, Gordon Rafferty, said: “We would like to thank all those who have played a part in bringing this new Lidl store to Paisley.

"It is great for us to be able to create more jobs and investment opportunities in the area, and we can’t wait to start serving our multi-award winning products to the local community.”

The store has a 1,325m² sales area and features facilities such as an in-store bakery, longer-style tills with dual packing, customer toilet, baby changing and ample parking for both cars and bicycles.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 8am for members of the public, with those in attendance offered the chance to sample products from across the store's ranges. 

The Depute Provost of Renfrewshire, Councillor Cathy McEwan, is set to be the guest of honour. 

Exclusive deals and offers on selected products will also be in place for the first week of opening. These include a shiatsu chair cushion, a 2-in-1 electric long reach hedge trimmer and a digital air fryer.
